Port Blair, Dec. 13: A training programme on ‘Balanced ration and total mixed ration preparation for goats and pigs under Scheduled Tribe Component’ was organised by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, in collaboration with the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, A&N Administration, at Harminder Bay village, Little Andaman from December 7 to 9, 2023.

Port Blair, Dec. 12: The Port Blair Municipal Council organised ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ programme at Dr. B R Ambedkar Auditorium, PBMC HQ here today. Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM,VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency as the chief guest inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional oil lamp. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chairperson, PBMC, Smt. S. Selvi, Councillors, Senior Officers of A&N Administration and various community representatives were present on the occasion. The Govt. of India launched the nationwide campaign ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ to raise awareness through outreach activities to achieve saturation of schemes and to ensure that benefits of flagship schemes reach the targeted beneficiaries in a time bound manner.

Port Blair, Dec. 12: Smt. M. Bhavani, a para-athelete has made the Islands proud yet again with her stellar performance in the Long Jump by clinching a Gold Medal in the ongoing Khelo India Para Games-2023 being held at New Delhi. Displaying her grit and determination, the para athlete has added two Gold Medals to her credit. With their participation for the first time in the Khelo India Para Games-2023, the Para-Athletics team of A&N Contingent exudes confidence in fetching more medals for the Islands in the upcoming events.

Port Blair, Dec. 12: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to repair city roads on priority basis, which have sustained damages during Monsoon season.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament said that as the monsoon season concludes, Andaman & Nicobar Islands are now entering a dry spell that is expected to last approximately 4 to 5 months.

Port Blair, Dec. 12: INTACH Andaman & Nicobar Chapter with support from Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism organized a discussion on "The scope of a Geo Park in Andaman & Nicobar Islands”.

A team of eminent Geologists (retired from the Geological Survey of India) made a presentation on the geological marvels that Andaman & Nicobar Islands hold and that although countries like China, Indonesia, Korea and Japan have Geo Parks, India doesn’t have one yet. They also mentioned that though the guidelines mentioned by UNESCO are difficult to follow yet India could perhaps start thinking of declaring one geo park. And that the Islands would be a good place to begin with.
